Dependents: You must file a return if any of the following apply. If your gross income was $3,500 or more, you usually cannot be claimed as a dependent unless you are a qualifying child. Single dependents under age 65: Unearned income over $900 Earned income over $5,450 Gross income was more than the larger of $900 or earned income up to $4,850 plus 300.
